Work of the Week: Miami Marlins

In effort to promote their latest rebranding, the MLB team, the Miami Marlins, took to a new way around the city. This is the third time the Marlins have rebranded their team in the past three years. Their new branding includes a new logo, new colors, and four new different looks of uniforms. The Marlins and the agency they teamed up with decided to put up seven large murals promoting their new look around the city of Miami.

On each mural design, the new color and logos are noticed throughout it, and were painted by several international muralists, who are all from Miami, and each painted a mural in their neighborhood. These artists were told to stick to a specific color palette that closely matches the new colors of the team, but the agency reported, "The team really wanted the artists to have free reign" with what they decided paint within their mural. One thing I noticed that was very unique, was that each mural has a specific bar code on it, which can be scanned and then shows directions to the closest fan store around that neighborhood the mural is in, so fans can go find gear from the team.

The baseball team allowed all of the muralists they chose to "fulfill their creative ambitions per the approved proposals" and had the ability to paint anything, as long as it involved the colors and overall new look from the rebranding of the Marlins. In this age where everything is digital and seen on a screen, it is great to see authentic, original art. I also think it was very clever to have Miami-based artists paint whatever stands out to them about their neighborhood, uniting Miami and surrounding the rebranding of the Marlins around it all.
