Work of the Week: Audi

I've seen just about every Marvel movie in the past 10 or so years, and since Iron Man in 2008, I quickly caught on to the Audi sponsorship. It isn't uncommon to see certain television shows or movies to only incorporate and showcase one brand of car throughout. In that 2008 Iron Man debut, Audi revealed their new Audi R8 by having billionaire "Tony Stark" step out of it. Since then, Audi's has been the only vehicles prominently shown throughout Marvel movies. Now in 2019 with the final Avengers movie: "Avengers: Endgame" set to hit theaters, Audi has decided to step it up a notch.

Audi teamed up with Marvel once again, but this time, revealed a hilarious digital short before the premier of the movie. The idea involves Captain Marvel, who has been away from earth for a long, long time and is being debriefed on what the 21st century is like. The debriefer quickly explains the most relevant cultural trends from taking picture of food, to the team of Avengers and what they've been up against. She then moves to cars, explaining that they have changed drastically, and steering Captain Marvel to the brand new and electric Audi e-tron SUV.

What I thought was unique about this idea was the way that Captain Marvel was explained to about the car, as the debriefer goes over the most impressive specs of the SUV in reference to what is the most astounding and up-to-date technology that is offered in a car. Audi stuck with a story, but still managed to incorporate everything about the car in a subtle way. It was set up with humor, making it not seem like a commercial at all, and continued to talk about how great the car was. By the end of the digital short, I still wouldn't call it a commercial, but now know about their new e-tron SUV, and all the amazing things about it.

The video already has 1.2 million views on YouTube, proving both the fanbase for the Avengers movie, and the attention the short has gotten since its posting on April 18th. Audi has said that they will be including the car prominently throughout the movie, along with Tony Stark's new supercar, the all-electric Audi e-tron GT concept. This collaboration has proved to attract loyal Marvel fans in the past, and in my opinion, is the perfect way to subtly showcase new cars, by pairing them with superheroes, and the way they are used and shown throughout the Avengers movies.
