Brand Reflection #5: Adobe

The Adobe Creative Cloud platform is unique. Unmatched in competition and containing every outlet of creation imaginable, this platform seems to be the go-to subscription for anyone looking for a creative solution on their computer. My first contact with the brand came when I was interested in learning Photoshop and Illustrator in high school, looking to take my art to a digital scale. I was hesitant of paying a subscription fee for something that I did not know how to use yet, but was very surprised when I went to go buy it. "Discounted subscription for students with a university email." Why did no one tell me about this? I went from being excited about the opportunity but hesitant about the subscription, to receiving an amazing deal with the entire Adobe cloud at my fingertips, wondering which one to get into first.

Since then, as I have taught myself different ways to do things across different programs, I have noticed that there are thousands of videos across the internet of people instructing how to do very specific tasks. Not sure how add a mask layer to an image? Or even what a mask layer is? There is a simple video out there explaining and showing exactly how to do it. What I think is so great about this, is that it has no ties to the brand itself. These are people understanding that there are millions of people not sure how to use this incredible software, and allow for anyone to grab it by the horns and run with, just as Adobe intended.

Recently, I was sent a link to a contest that Adobe is putting on in collaboration with up and coming artist Billie Eilish. As she has just released her newest album and is preparing to go on tour, Adobe has announced a contest for anyone to enter for free. It requires themes and ideas taken from Billie's drawings from dreams she has had, the use of something in Adobe's creative suite, and to be posted online with the hashtag #BILLIEXADOBE. This allows users of Adobe and fans of Billie alike to contribute to their own piece to show off, be inspired, and maybe even win a trip to one of her shows.

As a frequent user of Adobe's software, the brand could not be less foreign to me. However, with all the videos out there simplifying techniques and all the people with a computer and the potential to be creative, Adobe's creative suite can be used by essentially anyone. I think there could be millions out there that would enjoy using it, but either don't know enough about it, or simply aren't encouraged to. Forms of encouragement like these student discounts and collaborations seem to be a great way for Adobe to expand to more and more new users, but I hope they don't stop here.
